par, Birdie and eagle certification
Certification is one of the most important processes to advance through The First Tee program. It entails a full examination of the participant’s golf skills, understanding of yardage books and memorization of all 9 core values. Certification is open to any participant in Par and above levels. Certifying also opens many opportunities to our participants through The First Tee National Organization. Below is a link with some of these great opportunities for our Birdie and Eagle certified students:
Look at the left column when you’re on the website to see all of the great opportunities.
Spring session certifications start on March 12th and ends on March 26th, the Sunday before Spring classes start.

The First Tee of the Coachella Valley Golf team
The First Tee of the Coachella Valley Golf Team was created as a supplementary program to afford our members the opportunity to experience a competitive environment while serving as junior ambassadors for our chapter. This team often travels to private clubs around the valley playing in front of and with adults who are eager to learn more about our organization. Our team also competes against other organized teams such as local high schools. It is a privilege to earn a spot on our team and with that comes great responsibility.
Criteria for eligibility:
Each student must play a minimum of two rounds of qualifying on the dates and times
Students must be at least 12 years old to tryout
Each qualifying student must be enrolled and participating in a regular life skills based The First Tee class. (current annual membership required)
Fall Team Tryouts dates:
Each student must pay a one-time $30.00 fee to participate in the 8-week session. The golf team is an extra-curricular class that is beyond the scope of normal The First Tee of the Coachella Valley programming.
The golf team meets Tuesdays and Fridays. Fridays are skill building days with a competition to decide the top 12 to travel on Tuesdays. On Tuesdays, class will be held at Our NEW HOME COURSE. Avondale Country Club and might run a little longer due to the fact that we are trying to play 9 holes. The finishing time will likely be closer to 6pm on Tuesday play days. On Tuesdays the team will compete against other Men’s and Ladies clubs in the area to promote our great program.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Coach Dustin at 775-722-7181 or Coach Sandy 765-749-6606
Golf is unique from other sports because players learn values like honesty and responsibility by calling penalties on themselves and reporting their own score. The sport is a perfect platform for helping young people develop character because just like in life, players experience the highs and lows of the game.
The First Tee programming is based on a competency based model that provides opportunities for participants to demonstrate proficiency in the attainment of golf skills and the related life skills curriculum. Participants begin at the PLAYer level and progress through Par, Birdie, Eagle, and Ace levels of proficiency. Each level of attainment is acknowledged through certification and the awarding golf privileges.
In addition, through a partnership with the Coachella Valley Unified School District and the Desert Sands Unified School District, The First Tee programming through The First Tee National School Program will be a part of the physical education curriculum at fourteen CVUSD and twelve DSUSD elementary schools. It is estimated that over 6,000 children will be impacted by The First Tee of the Coachella Valley by the end of the second year of operation.
